In the process of design development, you mentioned that you like colors a lot. Which are your favorite colors and why?

Green is my favorite color. It’s my grandmother’s last name. I love the way green looks and blends with other colors.

You make combining your professional sports career and your family look easy. What’s your secret? Do you ever face hard times?

I have a very understanding family that understands my passions and what needs to be done to obtain my goals. So my sacrifices are theirs as well.

How did the culture of Harlem influence your personal style?

I’m from Harlem, I grew up and spent more than 3/4 of my life there, so I would say the culture is in me. People get dressed to come to basketball games, barbecues, movies and even just to go to corner store. It’s definitely a local lifestyle. Who doesn’t appreciate a person that can put their personal swag on an outfit.

The NBA pre-game fashion is almost as important, as the game itself. What about 3×3 basketball?

3×3 basketball is way different. Since there’re so many games throughout the day, you don’t get dressed to go to games, buy come ready in game attire to start warm-up fast and we have 2, sometimes 3 games a day.

This year in Tokio 3×3 basketball will debut at the Olympics. Unfortunately, team use didn’t qualify. How do you feel about that?

This time around, unfortunately, we’re not going to be at the Olympics. I’m distraught to miss out on a life long goal and opportunity. Will forever be one of biggest heartbreaks in my life. Like all life lessons – you learn from it, and I’m going to fuel that pain and defeat into many victories because that’s how I’m built.

“Cadence, Rhythm, Tempo” white T- Shirt EDWARD ACOSTA x DOMO JONES $140

You mentioned, that you are not a big brand guy. You pick things that are stylish and hot. Why don’t you go after brands? In you opinion, what’s the difference between wearing labels and having a true style?

Personal choices. You have to make a fit and make people double back and ask where you got your outfit from, instead of wearing a logo print, and seeing 70 other people having the same logo on. You give style a different personal feel, and the style makes you feel better, because you’re the one making it happen, rather than the brand.

The t-shirt design you created with Edward Acosta is a basic piece, even though it has a vivid design. Are there more basics or one-of-a-kind statement pieces in your wardrobe?

With Edward, I just stated basic info and he made it come to life. I feel you make what you wear. It’s a feeling of confidence and authenticity your wardrobe gives. Ed made that come together for me.

A thin edge of seduction and the consumerism fetish is thoroughly blurred in Acosta’s art in the use of both light, and dark tones. Bold lines serve as a fashionable juxtaposition of a peaceful dream-like state and a vivid color, representing action and presence in the moment.
